CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Jharvest members sign-up for the season and pick up fresh, organic produce weekly at Hillel UW.

Jharvest is also a platform for innovative educational and community-building programs that explore the intersection of food and Jewish tradition. Run by Jconnect Seattle and Hillel at the University of Washington, the educational programming sets Jharvest apart from other CSAs by creating a deeper relationship as Jews to the food we eat.

Perks of Jharvest Membership:

*Get organic, locally-grown vegetables in time for Shabbat - all summer long!
*Build a closer relationship to your food source
*Help support a local farm, a healthy environment, and a strong community.
*Try new things and get a variety of produce at competitive prices.
*Build Jewish community and connect with others who care about food, Jewish life,  and sustainability.

About the farm:

Jharvest is partnering with Oxbow Organic Farm, located just 24 miles from Seattle in the Snoqualmie Valley.  Oxbow is a 20-acre mixed vegetable, tree fruit, and berry farm bordering an “oxbow” lake. This lake provides critical habitat for salmon and other wildlife. It is fed by the Snoqualmie River which brings rich, Cascade glacial till to the soil.

Oxbow hand harvests everything at its peak for unsurpassed flavor and nutrition. Oxbow farmers have been farming and running CSA’s for over 12 years. This experience is evident in the variety, taste, and quality of their produce.

The contents of your share reflect the growing season. The start of the season is primarily leafy greens, soon becoming hefty, bountiful boxes full of the diversity of the region's produce.

Tzedekah Contribution

The integration of tzedekah (lit. justice or righteousness) into the project is one of the features that makes this a distinctly Jewish CSA. The obligation to care for the hungry in our midst is a primary obligation in Judaism and one that Jharvest takes seriously. We are committed to sharing the bounty of the harvest with the poor in our community, and are therefore requiring every member of the Jharvest CSA to contribute at least $18 towards a tzedekah fund. We strongly encourage you to give more than if you are able. ALL of the tzedekah funds will be used to support hunger relief work in the Seattle area.

Distribution Shifts

One of the most important ways Jharvest members build community is by sharing the responsibility of distributing produce each week. We ask members to sign up for a least one shift throughout the season, where they will be responsible for either a set-up shift (4:30-6:30) or a clean-up shift (6:30-8:30). Jharvest is only successful with the help of distribution volunteers. Please click here to sign up for a shift.
