From Prague to Toronto, Delhi to Rio, Czech-born Canadian chanteuse Lenka Lichtenberg and her band Fray create aural soundscapes that take the listener on a unique global odyssey. Singing in six languages, she moves seamlessly from innovative expressions of traditional Eastern European and Middle Eastern music, to her own contemporary compositions, which forge her European and Jewish roots together with North American jazz, Brazilian samba, Indian classical and more.
Lenka’s artistry parallels her own personal journey. The only child of Holocaust survivors, she escaped from behind the Iron Curtain to a new life in Canada, discovering her roots and developing a rich and diverse musical palette along the way. Her striking voice can be playful and provocative, or spiritual and introspective, in equally measure, with her backing band providing seamless and sophisticated soundtracks at every turn.
To date, Lichtenberg has performed in more than a dozen countries and released seven albums. Her latest “Embrace”, has been critically lauded and establish the singer as an artist who consistently breaks new ground. As esteemed Canadian music critic Nicholas Jennings put it, "Passionate and prolific, Lenka Lichtenberg is a force of nature!"
With her first major US tour now just weeks away and a new album set to be released internationally on the UK based ARC label early next year, Ms. Lichtenberg is poised to reach a whole new level of fans and followers with her unique music.
“Embrace is a wonderfully realized collection. Lichtenberg is moving towards the head of the class quickly.” - New York Jewish Week
