Mimouna Picnic

Sunday, April 04

6:30pm to 7:30pm
Green Lake

Join Seattle Moishe House and Jconnect Seattle for a socially distant Mimouna picnic!

Mimouna is a traditional North African Jewish celebration dinner, that currently takes place wherever Jews of Maghrebi heritage live. It is held the day after Passover, marking the return to eating hametz (leavened bread, etc.). Jews would buy back hametz from their Muslim neighbors, while eating pastries and celebrating the crossing of the Red Sea (the conclusion of the Passover story) together.

BYOM- bring your own mask! We are excited to be providing pastries from Byen Bakeri in Queen Anne who will be making unleavened (but not Kosher for Passover certified) pastries for us. Feel free to bring your own picnic dinner! We will have blankets available (or bring your own). We'll meet at Green Lake to have a picnic Mimouna together as we return to eating chametz!

Please note that although this event will be in person, we are not permitted to have anyone over at the house. We will be meeting at Green Lake (Google maps pin here.

This event is limited to 10 people because of local guidelines on outdoor events. You must RSVP using this form or you will not be permitted to attend.

Please do not attend if you feel sick or have been exposed to someone who has had COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

If weather is not on our side we will be giving out baskets at Moishe House and will be hosting this event in your living room/bedroom/indoor space, on your favorite platform, ZOOM!

Ingredients list here for the pastries:
Kransekage (almond) log/horn: almond paste, sugar, inverted sugar, egg whites
Swedish gooey cake: butter, chocolate pieces, eggs, sugar, rice flour, coffee flour

Facebook event can be found here!
