New Israel Fund Seattle is thrilled to welcome Israeli civil society leader Shir Nosatzki for this important discussion.
Shir has been a changemaker for over a decade and is among the leaders of the pro-democracy movement that swept across Israel throughout 2023. She is also the co-founder and director of Have You Seen The Horizon Lately?, an organization working to foster Jewish-Arab political partnership.
Following October 7th, Shir established the Joint Jewish-Arab Relief Center in the Bedouin town of Rahat, providing aid to thousands while promoting solidarity between communities. She and her organization are leading a massive public campaign to counter the popular narrative of an internal war between the Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel. One result is a series of viral testimonial videos of loss and bravery by the Palestinian Israeli community, which were covered extensively in national and international media.
This event is part of a two-part series Building a Better Future for Israel organized by J Street and the New Israel Fund for the Seattle community. Amid the dire crisis in Israel and Gaza, and the polarizing discourse in the U.S., these two organizations persist in their efforts toward a brighter future for Israelis and Palestinians.

About the Speaker:
Shir Nosatzki is a journalist turned activist, when in 2011 she was one of the leaders of the (then) largest protest in Israel, demanding social justice. Throughout the years, she continued her work, and in 2017 she founded Have You Seen the Horizon Lately?, which works to promote Jewish-Arab partnership, and strengthen the political legitimacy of the Arab community as an equal partner in the decision making processes in Israel. The organization's work includes extensive social and media campaigns and is deeply rooted in the most sensitive and contentious issues of the ever-changing Israeli reality. The tools and methods are continuously adapted to the different issues addressed.
During the largest protests in Israeli history, against the government's attempted judicial overhaul, Nosatzki took on a major role in the protest leadership, incorporating Arab voices, as well as issues relevant to the Israeli Arab community, into the demonstrations and corresponding public discourse.
Since October 7th, Nosatzki and her team have been leading a campaign to showcase the stories of Jewish-Arab partnership in Israel, including stories of heroism and bravery of Arab citizens who stepped up to save Israeli lives during the Hamas massacre, at the cost of risking their own.
Nosatzki won the Dror Prize for Social Change, was elected by The Marker newspaper as one of the most influential people on social media in Israel, and by Maariv newspaper as an emerging young leader. Recently awarded the 2024 Medal of Distinction by the Peres Center for Peace & Innovation, Shir is also the current recipient of NIF's Guardian of Democracy Gallanter Prize.
