The Spiritual History of a Candle

Tuesday, December 23

7:30pm to 9:00pm
HIllel UW
4745 17th Ave NE
Seattle WA 98105

In 1848, the famous chemist and physicist Michael Faraday delivered a series of lectures about the scientific properties of candle flames.  These lectures were published in 1861 as the master work entitled The Chemical History of a Candle.  Tonight, as part of our preparations for the Festival of Light, we will examine some of Faraday’s findings, and explore the way that the physics of candlelight and the biological mechanism of human eyesight can lead us to a deeper spiritual understanding of Hanukkah.  No previous knowledge is required, just an interest in learning more about the wonders of science and nature and how they relate to the holiday!
