Wednesday, July 29
8:30pm to 10:30pmFeel like you could use some catharsis right about now? The Jewish calendar is here for you once again with an annual ritual of communal grieving — Tisha B’Av, observed this year on the evening of Wednesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 30. Originally the commemoration of the destruction of the Temple (and with it our people’s whole notion of how to relate to God up to that point), Tisha B’Av has become a focal point for and an opportunity to lament all the calamities of Jewish history and all of the brokenness in the world today. See these local communities’ offerings for several ways to gather (online or outdoors) with other Jews to engage with the powerful rituals and texts of Tisha B’Av:
-Kavana (Independent): Reflection, text study, and the ritual chanting of Eichah (Lamentations), evening of 7/29. Zoom Link (Password: 610181)
-Congregation Beth Shalom (Conservative): Ma’ariv (evening service) and chanting Eichah (Lamentations) either in person or online, evening of 7/29. Click here for more information and to register.
-Mercaz (Modern Orthodox): Chanting Eichah (Lamentations) outside in a backyard in NE Seattle and online.
