Hosted by the UW Alumni Association and UW Undergraduate Academic Affairs in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
Join us as we welcome Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt back to the University of Washington. More than 50 years ago, before becoming a world-renowned diplomat and historian, Ambassador Lipstadt began her illustrious career as the first full time UW Jewish Studies faculty member.
Appointed by President Joe Biden, Ambassador Lipstadt served from 2022 to 2025 as the U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. This special engagement brings her back to the campus where her academic journey took root, returning as a global leader in the battle against hate.
Ambassador Lipstadt will reflect on the state of antisemitism – which she describes as a threat not just to the Jewish community, but to democracy itself – and the critical need for moral clarity. The Ambassador will be in conversation with Martin H. Schwartz, UW Stroum Center for Jewish Studies Dissertation Fellow and a doctoral candidate in the Department of German Studies.
Join us for this opportunity to hear from a leader with worldwide influence and UW roots about how to safeguard our shared values in an increasingly complex world.
This event is free and open to all, but space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Reception to follow.
